Dow Chemical - Puthri Scholars' Benefactor
Project Puthri takes pride in partnering with Dow chemical and for the support received from the company in enabling Puthris (Daughters) to pursue their dreams of stepping into careers of their choices in the Indian industry. The company has provided financial support via scholarship to three Puthris to help them complete tertiary education in Engineering field and shall assist with placements after the completion of the course.
Dow Chemical International Private Limited (Dow India) aims to be the most innovative, sustainable, inclusive customer-centric materials science company in the world. The company uses its technological expertise and employee volunteerism to partner with communities in which it operates. Dow India works with many non-profit organizations towards empowerment of persons with disabilities, women and children. It also supports various initiatives on sustainability and circular economy.
The scholarship for Puthris is given to selected girls who undergo a rigorous aptitude test conducted by the organisation.
The selected scholars are mentored on specific subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for two hours in a week. Dow chemical financially supports the selected Puthris through screening tests and have opted for Engineering course. Further the organisation invites outstanding Puthri Scholars for an orientation about their activities and trains them onto various soft Skills
The tuition fee for the scholars during the 4 years of study period is borne by Dow chemical Ltd. The scholars are initially trained and are selected as interns in the company.
During the last academic year 3 Puthri Scholars, who could not afford for their tertiary education, were offered scholarship to pursue their Engineering course in the college that they wished to study. The Puthri scholars were Kamalisri, Ramya and Sneha. All three of the them finished their schooling from Government Higher secondary School, Thoraipakkam, in Chennai. These Puthris received support to study in reputed Engineering colleges of Chennai. While Kamalaisri's father works at a ration shop, parents of Sneha and Ramya work as labour and drives an auto respectively.
These Puthri scholars are grateful for the support offered by Dow chemical and Project Puthri for the support offered and their heart is full of gratitude for having seen their dreams come true. The company will keep supporting more and more of our Puthri Scholars in the years to come.
