Udyog Utsav, first of its kind career visioning conference launched in the year 2018 paved the way towards reinforcing the vision of Project Puthri in making the underprivileged Girl children career intentional. During this one-day event more than 1000 Puthri scholars from over 100 Corporation schools across Chennai participate and get benefit from the knowledge sharing and informative sessions conducted by corporate Partners of Project Puthri. Thus Udyog Utsav aims to engage the potential of young girls to develop their untapped interests in various fields and link them to the right opportunities in tertiary education, that would lead them to career intentionality and white collar job in the future and become economically independent.

Puthri scholars are provided an excellent experience of understanding the corporate services, systems, process, various careers that they can opt in the industrial setting. The event also provides great opportunity for the Puthris to meet, network, explore and gain insights on the various institutions and industries; the myriad possibilities of courses, scholarships, job roles, internships and career paths they offer.

After 2 years and 3 successful editions, the 4th went virtual due to the pandemic.

Yes, Udyog Utsav 2021 was virtually conducted for 2 days. Day 1 had Scholars from 10th and 12th grades and Day 2 had Scholars from 9th and 11th grades.

Both the days were successfully executed with 800 + plus Puthris participating with the support of the corporates and Institutions. We wholeheartedly thank 'Danfoss Engineering' for being our Primary Sponsor for this year's conference.

Although the event was virtual we left no stones unturned on the efforts in successful executing the entire proceedings of the event. Right from the auspicious 'Lighting of the Lamp' to the final 'Vote of Thanks' the agenda for the event was well thought through and systematically planned

Both Day 1 and Day 2 had eminent speakers from various industries. The Puthri Scholars greatly benefitted through the knowledge sharing sessions on 'industrial prospects'. The sessions catered to the needs of Puthri scholars who have a flair towards Arts, sciences or commerce subjects.

Day - 1 event:

Udyog Utsav's Day 1 was brilliantly hosted virtually on 20th March,2021 with the enthusiastic participation of the Puthri scholars. More than 400 Scholars participated from the Government and corporation schools from Chennai, Pondicherry and Coimbatore.


The event was inaugurated with the classic Tamizh Thai Vazhtu followed by lighting of the 'virtual' lamp by respected dignitaries and by Dr Saundarya Rajesh Managing Trustee, Avtar Human Capital Trust. Dr Saundarya reinforced to the Purhri scholars through her inaugural speech that 'with education one can succeed on anything they would love to achieve in life.

Project Puthri an initiative of Avtar Human Capital Trust aims towards helping Puthri Scholars to get white collar jobs and to become Tax-paying citizens'.

She further emphasized to the Scholars to Love themselves, be positive and have confidence to achieve greater things, she also emphasised the need to ask for help when there was a need. The Puthris were highly elated to listen to her, they shared their gratitude and love to her during the session through their positive responses during the virtual session.


The Key note address was done by Mr V.S. Muralidar CFO & 'Global service Head for Asia Pacific & India Region, Danfoss. He highlighted on the need for girls to get into a sustainable career in order to be financially independent and to make one confident to face all life's challenges. He further added that Danfoss gave primary importance to social consciousness and awareness. He also stated that Danfoss rendered many social service by cleaning lakes, helping students with education, renovation on school infrastructure (Eg: bench, lab equipment etc). He concluded his speech by stressing upon the facts like i) Never giving up on education, ii) believing in oneself strongly, identifying their personal strengths and weaknesses and to follow their heart to pursue a hobby which shall her a successful person. Following this we had the various career visioning sessions presented by the various institutions and corporates

Dr. Arumugam, Founder & Chief Dr S Arumugam's Chennai Ortho presented on the various prospects in the field of medical and paramedical professions. Mr. Kathiravan Sadasivam, Director - Global Operational Excellence, Cognizant spoke about prospects on Digital Skills. Mr.Umashankar, Head of Production & Operations, Danfoss shared the prospects in the manufacturing industry. Mrs.Bhavani Balasubramanian, Chief Strategist - Diversity Assessment, Avtar Group, shared insights on Audit & Accounting Industry Prospects, and the final session was presented by Mr. Rangarajan IAS, Associate Director, Officer's IAS Academy who shared the tips on how to crack Civil Services Exam.

The Puthris were also entertained with a Mimicry show, by Rotarian Mr Selvakumar. The Day event came to an end soon after this session. The Puthri scholars eagerly participated during the Q&A sessions and raised their questions and queries relating to each of the sessions.

Insights onto our Day - 2 event.

Day 2 of the event was held on 28th March,2021. We had around 400 Puthri scholars participating the event from various government and corporation schools across TamilNadu and Puducherry.

The program was inaugurated by the Managing Trustee, Avtar Human Capital Trust Dr. Saundarya Rajesh. In her inaugural address she vocalized her vision of meeting many Puthri Alumni who would one day be working in various sectors and contributing towards India's GDP. She insisted all the Puthri scholars to visualize themselves in positions they dreamt to become. And to work towards investing their energy and time in pursuing higher education.


Resonating Dr. Saundarya Rajesh's vision, our Esteemed Chief Guest Mr. Ramakrishnan Ramanathan-Vice President- Quality & Total Customer Satisfaction, RNTBCI, a true role model to the Puthri scholars expressed that education is very important for girls, it plays a great tool of security in their lives. "Education is a good decision making tool, it would help in making better decisions for a safe life. One would become employable and there always remained a huge demand for skilled and knowledgeable human resources. Thus through these steps one would be economically independent." Quoting his childhood story of his father asking him to read various kinds of newspapers every day, he emphasized that he inculcated the habit of practising 'reading comprehension' every day. He stated that this would help in building their general knowledge levels'. He further stated that 'If one had complete holistic education together with key life skills, prospects for a better career are plenty. Soon after his inspirational talk he unveiled the Award for the Best Role Model Schools in Tamilnadu and Puducherry for the academic year 2020 -2021. He congratulated all the school authorities, the scholars and team Puthri for having made this tremendous impact amongst the girl children even during this pandemic situation.

Further from 'Knowledge Sharing Sessions' we moved to impactful sessions delivered by Subject matter experts in various fields. The Puthris were happy to meet a few eminent women achievers from various industries who were inspiring and stood as role models.

We welcomed our first speaker of the day Ms. Preethika Soundarajan-Quality Assurance Manager & Chairperson Women's Wing, Caterpillar, to share insights on Prospects in STEM for women in the corporate sector. She shared key inputs on subjects and colleges to be chosen inorder to be placed in a better career in the Industries. Ms Preethika emphasized on giving primary importance to Mathematics for people who were to opt for a technical career soon after their engineering courses.

This was followed by a session by our next delegate Dr. Belinda-HoD Social Work, Madras Christian College. Dr Belinda presented excellently and vividly shared useful information on the various courses that Puthri scholars can 'opt for' from the Arts and Commerce stream

A refreshing and entertaining session was awaiting the Puthri scholars soon after the power packed and informative knowledge sharing sessions. Today present this session we welcomed our Chief Guest of Honour Ms. Janaki Sabesh, a well-known cine personality, who served as 'chief fun officer' at 'Golpo Tales Unlimited'. Her session turned magical with her story telling skills. Her expressive body language and modulated tone kept the Puthri scholars totally amazed on the beautifully presented story telling session.

An inspiring knowledge sharing session was presented soon after this segment. Mr. Umashanker-Head of Production & Operations, Danfoss shared wonderful information on how the industry had prominent roles for women professionals in various departments.

This followed by an excellent session facilitated by Mr. Tamilselvan, Founder & CEO of 'Future Captains'. In this session he shared vital information on the various Vocational courses that are available for students, Certification programs and talked on the various Alternative career streams for Women.

The Q & A session was key in the entire program schedule. The Puthris were allowed to asked their queries and questions for about 15 mins to the facilitator on the various questions relating to choosing a career. Other questions were taken up offline separately.

The entire event splendidly came to an end with the Puthri scholars reading the Puthri Pledge. They all pledged during this occasion that they would lead a career intentional path during their schooling. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Eswar Balasubramanian, Head Outreach Programs, Avtar Human Capital Trust.

The Day 2 event concluded in style with grandeur and excellence with the Puthri scholars gleaming with Joy and thanking Puthri Team for organising such an event. The event ended well with all the well-wishers of Project Puthri congratulating the entire team for organising such a remarkable event. The Puthri scholars and their parents shared their wonderful positive feedback regarding the sessions. It thus cannot be denied that the Udyog Utsav event was impactful and informative to the Puthri scholars and triggered them to work towards succeeding in their careers.
