As a Puthri mentor, I have committed myself to teach these young girls the necessary life skills through sharing my experiences and encourage them to learn and achieve more and more in life, and more importantly be always financially independent. For these girls in general are so precious and they deserve to be happy. One of the PUTHRI scholars in my class was extremely hostile, and unwilling to learn. All my attempts to make her more attentive in class were turning futile. However, in one of the sessions, she opened up and to my discovery I realized how she had been subjected to body shaming and bullying by her fellow classmates. When I shared my experience of being a victim to similar criticism in my childhood, she overcame her inner insecurities and now has become to be one of the most attentive girls in the class. She has actually motivated me to not give up on anything or any individual. If one can do this with one girl PUTHRI, am sure we can mould multitudes of PUTHRIs in the coming years. |
