Volunteers' Speak

Anticipate to Overcome Challenges

Balaraman

My relationship with Project PUTHRI started way before the initiative even came into being. When I was with TNFES, AVTAR was the first organization to come forward to conduct "Behavioral Sessions" for children in a government-run school. AVTAR brought in its effective plan to make the intervention meaningful and impactful with their Training module. This sowed the seed in me to be associated with PUTHRI. As a PUTHRI volunteer, I have often faced challenges particularly in coordination. And the easiest way to overcome this is to know the problem. Try to understand, knowing solutions for each and every Problem is not mandatory, at least try to foresee a problem, so that one is able to easily make decisions at the right time. Read More...

Stay at a one-arm-distance from Technology

It is important that you keep up with the speed at which technological and other advancements in Education and never lose track of the same. For this, one must always keep your eyes and ears open and be receptive to new ideas thrown in by different sources. The biggest challenge for any educator is to keep abreast with the technological advancements and the proximity to the students. With so many hours of volunteering with PUTHRI, this is now more of my passion and will never lose track of keeping myself abreast! Read More...

Financial Independence is a must for all Women

Sharon

As a Puthri mentor, I have committed myself to teach these young girls the necessary life skills through sharing my experiences and encourage them to learn and achieve more and more in life, and more importantly be always financially independent. For these girls in general are so precious and they deserve to be happy. One of the PUTHRI scholars in my class was extremely hostile, and unwilling to learn. All my attempts to make her more attentive in class were turning futile. However, in one of the sessions, she opened up and to my discovery I realized how she had been subjected to body shaming and bullying by her fellow classmates. Read More...

Dream to Win

Kanaa

"You have to dream, before your dream comes true", those were the words of Late Dr. APJ Kalam, ex-President of India, the most inspiring leader of our times. True, it is. Unless you dream, you can't follow it to be a reality. "Do not get subjugated by the pressures of both family and society. Unless, there is a "kanaa" in your eyes, you will not be able to set a vision for your future", said lyricist-writer-actor-turned Director of the movie "kanaa", Arunraja Kamaraj, while addressing 200 PUTHRI scholars at the PVR Cinemas, Grand Galada Mall in Pallavaram early this year. "In today's competitive world, it is not enough to be career-oriented, but it is also important to showcase your special talent that you have to the outside world. Read More...
