Volunteers' Speak - Anticipate to Overcome Challenges

Balaraman Ramakrishnan, IT professional, working as a PMO in Wipro Technologies

My relationship with Project Puthri started way before the initiative even came into being. When I was with TNFES, AVTAR was the first organization to come forward to conduct "Behavioral Sessions" for children in a government-run school. AVTAR brought in its effective plan to make the intervention meaningful and impactful with their Training module. This sowed the seed in me to be associated with PUTHRI. As a PUTHRI volunteer, I have often faced challenges particularly in coordination. And the easiest way to overcome this is to know the problem. Try to understand, knowing solutions for each and every Problem is not mandatory, at least try to foresee a problem, so that one is able to easily make decisions at the right time.

Mr. Balaraman
According to me, there are only four ways of coordination and they are easily manageable:
  • Internal Coordination: Mentor and Scholars - Keep engaging with them. Mentors are assets, so please treat them in very respectable manner as you respect your teachers.

  • External Coordination: School POC, Teacher and HM - Try to convey the schedules and plans. They are the ones who understand the benefits of the sessions directly. So get feedback about scholars regularly.

  • Vertical Coordination: Avtar & Sponsors - Always you are responsible for your action, so keep them informed.

  • Lateral Coordination: Puthri Staffs - Always seek help from them as and when it is required.
At the end of the day, Project Puthri is not a regular training session but a unique one designed and curated to create a huge impact on the society at large.
