Milestones of Project Puthri
Expansions

Project Puthri expanded its operations to 10 new schools over the past six months and now caters to 5000 Puthris at 64 schools in Chennai, Puducherry and Coimbatore respectively for making them Career Intentional. Over new 173 volunteers have enrolled with Project Puthri during the period between June to December, 2019. The volunteers are making an everlasting impact in the minds of Puthris. There are about 271 mentors, who actively deliver sessions.

During the same period as above, Project Puthri has increased the number of Career Coaches to grow from 15 to 25. Project Puthri successfully conducted 12 Puthri Career Choice Assessment PCCA sessions in Government schools, including the ones in remotest locations such as Mathur, Molachur and Sriperumpudur.

Avtar Human Capital Trust (AHCT) received financial support from four new organizations to implement Project Puthri sessions at 11 schools.

Events

'Udyog Utsav', the fourth career visioning event for Puthris was held at Sathyabama University, Chennai on 2nd November, 2019. The event witnessed an active participation from 800 Puthris who gathered from different parts of Chennai. These young girls are at present being trained in over 40 skills under the intervention program conducted by Project Puthri at their schools to build career intentionality. Udyog Utsav is a platform for underprivileged girl students to envisage the possibilities of career, scholarship, internships and jobs for them to decide their career paths. The event provided a knowledge sharing platform for students to hear from leading corporates and institutions such as Comcast, Danfoss, Zoho Corp, RNTBCI, Saint Gobain, Caterpillar, Deloitte, Dow Chemicals, Dun & Bradstreet, Sathyabama University, CIPET and Project Management Institute enlightened the school students by providing them guidance on how to pursue white collar jobs after graduation.In addition to this, organisations like Rotary Club of Madras East, Rotary Club of Madras Vadapalani, HSBC, PayPal, News 7 tamil, Viruksha trust, Creative Ville, Brand Blitz supported us in many ways to make this event a grand success.

Tamil Nadu Government granted permission for implementation of Project Puthri at Government Schools across the state.

Sessions

In addition to the regular life skills sessions, 15 role model sessions by leaders and achievers were conducted for the Puthris.

ISRO scientist Mr. Purushotaman delivered an informative session about 'space science' to Puthri Scholars at Villianur School, Pondicherry as part of the Role model sessions.


Puthri Career Choice Assessment (PCCA) sessions conducted in Remote locations like Mathur, Sriperumbudur.

Train the Trainers was conducted for new mentors on 12th October, 2019 at Malayalee club, Chetpet, Chennai. 18 participants benefitted from the sessions

Four batches of 'Train the trainers'(TTT) programs were conducted for new mentors with the view of sharpening their mentoring skills and facilitating them towards effective delivery of sessions for Puthri scholars. Training for newly inducted career coaches was held to provide expert guidance to Puthri scholars, direct them towards their strengths and make informed decisions about their career development. In addition, with the view of building the capacity of teachers and in being effective to lead their students towards change, a day-long Leadership training program was conducted for Teachers of Chengalpet District at Government Higher Secondary school, Chengalpet in November.
